Job Responsibilities
The Welder will be responsible for carrying out MIG welding and cobot laser welding operations for sheet metal components, fabricated parts, panels, enclosures, brackets, and assemblies. The role requires strong attention to welding quality, dimensional accuracy, production efficiency, and workplace safety.
Key duties include:
Perform MIG welding on thin-to-medium gauge sheet metal components using mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and production work instructions.
Set up, prepare, and operate MIG welding equipment according to the required material type, thickness, joint configuration, and production requirements.
Set up, program, and operate cobot collaborative robot laser welding systems for automated and semi-automated welding applications.
Select and adjust suitable welding parameters, including voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow, travel speed, laser power, and other process settings.
Load, position, align, clamp, and fixture sheet metal components accurately before welding to ensure proper dimensions and joint alignment.
Teach, adjust, and fine-tune cobot welding paths and programs for new sheet metal jobs and different product configurations.
Optimize cobot welding programs to maintain consistent weld quality, seam accuracy, production cycle time, and repeatability.
Weld different sheet metal joint configurations, including lap joints, corner joints, edge joints, and fillet joints.
Weld fabricated sheet metal products such as electrical enclosures, equipment panels, brackets, frames, covers, cabinets, and other assemblies.
Control heat input and welding sequence to minimize warping, distortion, discoloration, burn-through, and other welding problems, particularly when working with thin sheet metal.
Inspect completed welds visually and dimensionally to identify defects such as porosity, undercut, excessive spatter, cracks, burn-through, distortion, incomplete welding, and inconsistent weld appearance.
Perform welding rework, repair, adjustment, and correction when weld defects or dimensional issues are identified.
Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of MIG welding machines, welding torches, contact tips, nozzles, cables, fixtures, cobot tooling, and related equipment.
Ensure welding machines, cobot systems, fixtures, and tools are properly prepared and maintained before starting production.
Coordinate with sheet metal fabrication teams involved in cutting, punching, bending, and forming operations to ensure components are correctly prepared and dimensionally accurate before welding.
Check components before welding to ensure correct material, dimensions, orientation, joint preparation, and fit-up according to production requirements.
Maintain proper weld traceability, inspection records, production records, quality documentation, and other required manufacturing paperwork.
Follow all workplace health, safety, and environmental requirements when operating welding equipment, cobots, lasers, gas systems, and other workshop machinery.
Wear and properly maintain required personal protective equipment, including welding helmet, gloves, protective clothing, safety footwear, eye protection, and other designated PPE.
Ensure proper use of fume extraction and ventilation systems during welding operations.
Follow safe operating procedures when handling welding equipment, compressed gases, laser welding systems, sheet metal materials, and fabricated components.
Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Design, Production, and Maintenance teams to investigate welding defects and resolve production issues.
Assist with troubleshooting welding problems and recommend adjustments to welding parameters, fixtures, programs, or production methods where necessary.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding workstation and ensure tools, equipment, materials, and finished components are properly arranged.
Participate in 5S, Kaizen, lean manufacturing, process improvement, productivity improvement, and other continuous improvement activities on the shop floor.
Follow production schedules and complete assigned welding work according to required quality standards, quantities, and deadlines.
Minimize material wastage, welding defects, rework, downtime, and unnecessary production delays.
Support the development and improvement of welding processes, fixtures, cobot programs, and production methods to improve consistency and efficiency.
Perform any other welding, fabrication, production, inspection, or related duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Job Requirements
Candidates should have practical experience in MIG welding and sheet metal fabrication. Applicants should be comfortable working with engineering drawings, welding symbols, production specifications, and fabrication instructions.
Experience working with cobot welding systems, robotic welding, or laser welding equipment will be an advantage. Candidates should have good attention to detail, understand welding quality requirements, and be able to identify and correct common welding defects.
The successful candidate should be able to work independently as well as cooperate effectively with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams.
A strong commitment to workplace safety, product quality, productivity, and continuous improvement is required.
