JOB DESCRIPTION
The Cat Shelter Assistant / Cat Caretaker will be responsible for providing daily care and maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for cats at the shelter.
The successful applicant will support the daily operation of the facility and ensure that all cats receive proper food, water, hygiene care, attention, and basic monitoring.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide daily care and attention to cats at the shelter.
Prepare and provide appropriate food according to the daily feeding schedule.
Ensure that cats have access to clean and fresh drinking water at all times.
Clean cat cages, rooms, litter areas, activity areas, and other facilities regularly.
Replace litter and maintain proper hygiene throughout the shelter.
Assist with basic grooming and routine animal-care activities.
Monitor the general health, appearance, appetite, and behavior of cats.
Report any unusual behavior, illness, injury, or changes in the condition of cats to the supervisor.
Handle cats carefully and responsibly during feeding, cleaning, grooming, and other daily activities.
Help maintain a calm, safe, and comfortable environment for cats.
Assist with the preparation and cleaning of cat activity and resting areas.
Follow shelter cleaning, hygiene, safety, and animal-care procedures.
Assist with the daily operation and organization of the cat shelter.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in all assigned work areas.
Help organize food, cleaning supplies, pet-care equipment, and other shelter materials.
Work cooperatively with other members of the shelter team.
Perform other reasonable duties related to cat care and shelter operations as assigned by the supervisor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have a genuine interest in cats and animal care.
Applicants must be caring, patient, responsible, and attentive when handling animals.
Good observation skills are important for identifying changes in a cat’s health or behavior.
Applicants should be physically fit enough to perform routine cleaning, feeding, lifting, and animal-care duties.
Must be willing to perform cleaning and sanitation work as part of the daily responsibilities.
Must be hardworking, reliable, punctual, and responsible.
Applicants should be willing to learn new animal-care procedures and follow instructions from supervisors.
Previous experience working in a cat shelter, pet shop, veterinary clinic, kennel, or other animal-care environment is an advantage but is not mandatory.
Applicants without relevant experience may be considered if they demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
TRAINING
On-the-job training will be provided to suitable candidates. Training may include basic cat handling, feeding procedures, cleaning and sanitation, grooming assistance, animal safety, and shelter operating procedures.
